Tractor Supply Co. is closing more than a third of its Petsense stores, according to the company's latest earnings report.

The pet supply store chain, which Tractor Supply Co. acquired in 2016, will shutter 75 locations nationwide as part of a "business restructuring," the July 23 report said. Petsense had 209 locations in 23 states as of late June.

Petsense sells food and accessories for dogs, cats, and other small pets, according to its website. Many locations also offer grooming services.

Tractor Supply Co. President and CEO Hal Lawton said in a statement that the company was "not satisfied with our performance" in the second quarter of fiscal year 2026. Comparable store sales fell 1.5%, the report said, and the company has revised its fiscal year 2026 outlook.

"The actions we are taking are designed to improve performance over the balance of the year and further position the company for long-term success," Lawton said.

During the second quarter, the company opened 28 new Tractor Supply stores and three new Petsense locations.

The company also recorded $65.8 million in charges for its Petsense business, primarily due to the planned restructuring.

Lawton said that while Tractor Supply Co. is facing financial headwinds, the company is still confident in the strength of its core customer base.

"Tractor Supply has successfully navigated many economic cycles throughout our 88-year history, and we remain confident that the long-term demand drivers supporting our business remain intact," Lawton said.

Tractor Supply Co. did not provide a timeline for the Petsense closures. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday, July 28.
