Ukraine's newly appointed army chief, Mykhailo Drapatyi has held his first telephone call with NATO's top military commander in Europe, Alexus Grynkewich, less than a week after taking office.
In a post on social media on Wednesday, Drapatyi said he outlined his vision for achieving victory over Russia and the military capabilities needed to do so.
The talks with US General Grynkewich also covered expanding Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russian territory and preventing Russian troops from infiltrating Ukraine's defensive lines, he said.
Ukraine has significantly increased drone and missile attacks on targets hundreds of kilometres behind the front lines in Russia.
According to Western media reports, Kiev has benefited from intelligence support from Western allies in carrying out some of the long-range strikes.
"We are working to increase the level of enemy casualties and reduce Moscow's economic capabilities. We are using asymmetric approaches and Ukrainian technologies for this purpose," Drapatyi said in the statement.
Ukrainian attacks, including those targeting oil refineries, have at times disrupted fuel supplies in Russia and Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine. Civilian casualties resulting from the strikes have also increased in recent weeks.
Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia's full-scale invasion since February 2022 with military and financial support from Western allies.
