ICE is reportedly seeking more than 200 parking spots in downtown Boston.
According to the Boston Globe, a federal notice was issued last month that ICE sought to identify suitable parking spaces in over a dozen cities across the country, including Boston.
Gov. Maura Healey is expected to sign the PROTECT Act later this morning in Chelsea.
Legislation supporters say this will provide some of the strongest protections in the nation for immigrants while limiting where federal immigration enforcement can take place in Massachusetts.
The legislation is designed to expand protections against what supporters describe as abuses by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
"We see what ICE is doing to our communities every day. People are afraid to go to school, doctors' appointments, court or even church. ICE is shooting people dead, separating families, and making us all less safe. That's why I'm about to sign the strongest protections in the country against their abuses." said Governor Maura Healey.
"We absolutely cannot allow ICE to have 250 parking spots in downtown Boston while they are engaging in these illegal tactics. We cannot enable them to ramp up even further in Massachusetts."
