Simpsonville's police chief was placed on paid leave during a July 21 city meeting following "allegations of harassment and misconduct," according to meeting minutes released Aug. 5.
Chief Thomas Brummer, 41, of Shelbyville, was placed on paid leave "effective immediately" following a closed session at the start of the meeting, minutes show. It was unclear what allegations he currently faces.
After making a motion to suspend Brummer for up to 30 days, Simpsonville City Commissioner Kelland Garland made a motion to hire Advanced Investigations Solutions to conduct an investigation into "allegations of harassment and misconduct." Both motions carried unanimously.
Sgt. David Aikins will serve as acting chief for the duration of Brummer's suspension at a salary of $95,000, officials said.
