St. Johns County deputies arrived at the home of 91-year-old William Lippold on Saturday. They were there for a reported shooting. "It's not complicated. I shot my wife," he told them.
An arrest report obtained by Action News Jax gives more details into what appeared to be a would-be murder suicide at Lippold's home at 178 Como Court.
Detectives on the scene talked to Lippold's 63-year-old son who said his father called him and said, "I did something bad, I need you to come over," the report states.
When he arrived at the home, his father told him that he killed his mother. She lay in bed, blood near her body, along with a gun, a shell casing, and a note, the report states.
Lippold's son told detectives that his father told him that he planned on killing himself by placing a plastic bag over his head, according to the report.
He also told detectives that his mother had severe Alzheimer's and his father was her sole caretaker. Lippold told investigators that his wife was also blind and he was planning to kill her for about a month.
"William said he had previously promised his wife he would never put her in a nursing home, so he views this as keeping his promise to her," the report states.
