PLYMOUTH — Patrick Clancy is back on the stand the witness stand Wednesday morning at his ex-wife's murder trial.

Prosecutors have accused Lindsay Clancy, 35, of deliberately plotting to strangle the couple's three young children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan — in the basement of their Duxbury home in January 2023.

Lindsay Clancy is presenting a lack of criminal responsibility defense, claiming postpartum mental illness left her unable to comply with the law and to understand she was doing something wrong or committing a crime.

Superior Court Judge William F. Sullivan is overseeing the trial, which is expected to last six to eight weeks.

Patrick Clancy is now testifying about his trip to CVS on the night his children were killed. He said his wife asked him to pick up stool softener while he was out picking up takeout.

At CVS, Patrick Clancy called his wife, around 5:30 p.m. Lindsay Clancy didn't answer at first, but called back shortly after.

"It was very brief," he said of the phone call. "She was pretty quiet. It sounded like she was busy. I remember hanging up thinking she was giving baths or something."

Patrick Clancy is back on the stand, and Sprague is following up with him about things he testified about on Monday.

Sullivan is asking the jury if they read, saw, or heard anything about the case that would affect their service. They all said no. All jurors said there was nothing they needed to bring to the judge's attention.

He warned the jury there might be more breaks during Patrick Clancy's testimony than normal. A view of the Clancys' former family home in Duxbury is scheduled for Friday.

Media and members of the public have been let in. Much like the first day, the courtroom is packed to the gills.

We expect Patrick Clancy to be questioned about the night of the killings this morning. On Jan. 24, 2023, he returned home to find his wife lying in the backyard after a suicide attempt, then discovered his children's bodies in the basement. Patrick Clancy was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher when he found the children, and a recording of the call is likely to be played for jurors on Wednesday.
