A Charlotte man is facing charges after police say videos posted to a social media account helped investigators identify him in a violent assault that left a woman hospitalized.
According to CMPD, officers were alerted Thursday morning to an Instagram account while responding to a call in uptown Charlotte.
Detectives determined one of the videos showed an assault that had been reported on July 30 in the 400 block of East Boulevard.
The video, which appeared to be posted to an Instagram account belonging to 32-year-old Di-Quan Schafar Hunt, shows a woman walking with a balloon before she is suddenly punched, causing her to fall to the sidewalk.
Although the person's face in the video was blurred, the victim appeared to be knocked unconscious by the blow. She was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
CMPD announced Thursday that Hunt had been taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Once he is released, he will be booked into the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
Police said the investigation remains active and are asking anyone with information about the assault or other incidents connected to the social media account or videos to contact CrimeStoppers.
