Germany's National Security Council has discussed the drone incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport, government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said on Friday.
The council talked by phone, with Chancellor Friedrich Merz leading the call, Kornelius said.
Merz is in frequent contact with Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt and other members of the government over the incident, he said.
The meeting follows the discovery of a drone carrying an explosive device near Ukrainian cargo aircraft at the airport late Tuesday.
A second unidentified object also struck a DHL cargo aircraft near the airport.
Investigations are still at an early stage, but Dobrindt has not ruled out the involvement of "foreign powers" and has warned that the incident could have been part of a "hybrid attack scenario."
Germany's National Security Council was established last year with the aim of coordinating the federal government's responsibilities for domestic and external security.
