Oklahoma County has issued a county-wide burn ban for two weeks starting on Friday, Aug. 7.
The Board of County Commissioners held an emergency meeting on Friday afternoon due to extreme fire danger in Oklahoma County to issue the resolution.
The measure bans any person from setting fire to any forest, grass, range, crop or other wildlands, building a campfire or bonfire, or burning trash or other material that may cause a forest, grass, range, crop or other wildland fire.
Outdoor cooking in approved cooking appliances with due caution is allowed.
Violators will be guilty of a misdemeanor and may be charged up to $500, be imprisoned for up to a year, or both.
If the extreme fire danger remains after Friday, Aug. 21, subsequent resolutions may be passed, and the burn ban may be removed at any point during the 14 days.
