Following the discovery of a drone loaded with explosives at Leipzig/Halle Airport, the Russian Embassy in Berlin has described the incident as a "provocation" directed against Moscow.
"It is obvious that this hastily cobbled-together provocation serves exclusively the aims of Kiev and the militaristic wing of the European political class," Russia's diplomatic mission stated on Telegram, warning of what it termed "a new wave of anti-Russian hysteria in Germany."
The embassy believes that Ukraine - which lacks weapons - is behind the hybrid attack.
Ukraine and European governments need arguments to continue allowing "unlimited financial resources to flow into the hands of a corrupt regime," the statement argued.
Late on Tuesday evening at Leipzig/Halle Airport, a drone equipped with explosives and a detonator was discovered near Ukrainian transport aircraft and brought down by a member of staff.
Shortly afterwards, an aircraft taking off following the airspace closure collided with an unidentified smaller flying object, possibly a second drone.
The Russian Embassy charged that the case was being presented as a hybrid attack to stir up anti-Moscow sentiment in the media.
As in previous cases, no evidence has been presented, the Russian statement asserted. Yet, there were already politicians speaking of an act that could trigger war against Germany and NATO, and of the need for countermeasures on Berlin's part, it added.
"We would like to add that the greatest danger to Germany today does not lie in Moscow's much-vaunted 'hybrid attacks' - which do not even exist - but stems from politicians who are enthusiastically drawing up scenarios for an imminent war against Russia and suggesting to German citizens that they take part in it," the embassy went on to state.
