More than a dozen veterans organizations and nearly 75 people stood in the heat at Veteran's Memorial Park on Friday afternoon with Florida Rep. Michelle Salzman and U.S. Rep. Jimmy Patronis to honor three-time Purple Heart recipient Chris Lambert, as well as the nearly two million people awarded the honor in the United States.
National Purple Heart Day on Aug. 7 honors the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who have been wounded or made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.
"Today, we pause to honor the men and women who have sacrificed so much in service to our country," Salzman said. "Every Purple Heart carries with it a story of courage, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to protecting the freedoms we are blessed to enjoy. We owe our Purple Heart recipients, and the families who have supported them, a debt of gratitude that can never truly be repaid. Their service and sacrifice will forever be remembered, and their legacy will continue to inspire generations of Americans."
The National Purple Heart Day observance brought the community together to honor Purple Heart recipients and recognize their extraordinary service to our nation. National Purple Heart Day is a solemn reminder of the heroes who put our country before themselves and defended the freedoms we cherish, Patronis said.
"Those who earned the Purple Heart made sacrifices most of us will never truly understand," Patronis said. "Here in Northwest Florida, we are fortunate to have so many veterans and their families who remind us every day of the true meaning of service and sacrifice. Standing alongside these heroes was a powerful reminder of the deep gratitude we owe to those who defended our freedoms. We are forever grateful for their courage, their sacrifice, and their unwavering commitment to our nation."
