Supplemental Security Income recipients will receive their payments a day early this year thanks to Aug. 1 falling on a Saturday.
When the first of the month falls on a weekend, SSI recipients will receive their payments on the last Friday of the preceding month. This is one of five times in 2026 when SSI will be sent on a day other than the first of the month.
Here's more of what to expect from SSI and Social Security in August.
Here's the full payment schedule for Social Security, SSI recipients:
Friday, July 31: SSI payments.
Wednesday, Aug. 12: for Social Security beneficiaries with birth dates between Aug. 1-10.
Wednesday, Aug. 19: for Social Security beneficiaries with birth dates between Aug. 11-20.
Wednesday, Aug. 26: for Social Security beneficiaries with birth dates between Aug. 21-31.
The next time checks will be sent early is on Friday, July 31, because Aug. 1 is a Saturday this year.
SSI checks will also be sent out early for November because the first falls on a weekend.
And the first check of the new year is always sent on New Year's Eve because of the holiday conflict.
According to the SSA, if you don't receive your payment on the scheduled date, wait three additional days, then call the Social Security office.
The 2027 COLA forecast stands at 3.8% as inflation rises, according to The Senior Citizens League's July 14 update. If that goes into effect, the average Social Security check for retired workers would increase by $73.62.
In June, The Senior Citizens League had the COLA forecast also at 3.8%.
The Senior Citizens League releases a COLA prediction each month based on the Consumer Price Index, Federal Reserve interest rate and the National Unemployment rate from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
