MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Two people were critically injured in an East Memphis shooting Saturday morning, Memphis Police said.
On Aug. 8, just before 3 a.m., officers responded to a reported domestic violence shooting in the 3800 block of Philsdale Ave.
When they arrived, officers saw spent shell casings on the East Memphis residence's front porch.
Inside the residence, they saw an unconscious victim lying face down in a pool of blood who was also suffering from a gunshot wound.
A second wounded victim was seen lying on his back, officers said. When MPD tried to speak with the second victim, he said he did not know who fired shots.
The victim told offficers he was shot with a rifle, MPD said, Both victims were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
A neighbor officers spoke to said he was sleeping and woke up because of the gunshots coming from across the street.
The neighbor said when he walked outside he was approached by two women who knew the victims and told him to "call the cops, he is dead."
The two women who knew the victims then left the scene westbound on Philsdale Ave. in a vehicle with three children.
The neighbor told MPD he saw another woman outside the East Memphis resience who left in a gray Chevrolet Tahoe at the same time as the other two women.
Officers saw a spent shell casing in the dining area of the residence, live round on a bedroom mattress, and another live round on the sidewalk in front of the residence.
MPD said they also saw a Nissan Altima and a burgandy Dodge Ram parked in the driveway, which had recently been driven because the hoods of both vehicles were hot.
Police said this is an ongoing investigation. It is unknown if there is suspect information.
