4-H is a fine thing, and we all realize that livestock is raised to be eaten, but adorning pigs with glitter before sending them off to their deaths seems bizarre to me.

Between 2015 and 2025 a total of 382 whales were caught in fishing gear on the U.S. West Coast. Two hundred sixty-eight of those caught were threatened/endangered humpback whales. Eighty were Oregon threatened gray whales and 34 were blue, fin, sperm, minke or unidentified whales. Blue and fin whales are endangered.

This spring Oregonians convinced the legislature to increase some taxes to fund nine wildlife programs. But it didn't change any rules other than to state where money comes from and how it is to be spent.

However, Oregonians have changed the rules of how bears and cougars could be hunted. Oregonians have changed the rules of how grey wolf recovery should take place.

Now is the time to change the rules of how Dungeness crabs are harvested so the great mammals of the sea are at a lower risk of entanglement with commercial crab pot fishing gear. California already approved an alternative pop-up gear last year.

Join me in Salem on August 14 at 8 am to tell the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission that it's time to change the rules and save whales. Sign up to testify or just show up in your favorite whale t-shirt to support whales.

And to add urgency for change ODFW wants NOAA to allow up to 61 humpback whales to be entangled over a 15-year period. That's about four humpbacks per year.

Oregonians, it's time to change the rules and save the whales.

In response to Steve Hunnicutt's question, "Is this what you wanted?" I would say, given the alternative the Democrats foolishly gave the American people, unequivocally, yes.

We finally have a president who had the guts to deal with the murderous regime in Iran, close the border to illegal aliens, designate drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, and forced higher defense spending from our so-called NATO allies. Not to mention the big beautiful bill.

While far from perfect, Trump's presidency has accomplished far more than any other president's in recent history. Remember what you could have had: a giggling buffoon as president and a vice president who just pardoned a convicted child molester. Is that what you really wanted?

I voted for President Trump three times. It is still going fine for me. It will be as long as Biden and Obama are not president.

Editor's note: Barack Obama is not eligible to run for president again. Joe Biden is unlikely to run for a second term after dropping out of the 2024 race. Kamala Harris never had the power to pardon anyone.

Yes, you choose Trump or Kotax.

Editor's note: Oregon's governor is named Tina Kotex.
