In Georgia, insurance was up 40.2% for homeowners from 2020 to 2025, and up 7.3% in 2025 alone.

The average yearly cost of protecting your home costs $2,640 for Georgians, as of 2025, LendingTree reported.

Compared to the rest of the U.S., LendingTree said Georgia had a 10.2% higher, on average, when it comes to the cost of home insurance premiums.

LendingTree said the reason insurance premiums increased the way they have was due to the rise of severe weather losses and the increased cost of labor, materials and repairs.

"Between 2020 and 2024, the U.S. experienced around 23 disasters per year that caused at least $1 billion in damage each," Lindsay Bishop, LendingTree insurance expert, said. "That's a major increase from the previous five-year period, when there were only an average of 15 $1 billion disasters per year."

Bishop also said there was a significant increase in how many severe storms hit the U.S. between 2015 and 2019, with heavy rainfall, high winds and hail all able to cause damage to a large number of homes at the same time.

Added on to that was a smaller amount of laborers available starting in 2020 and the supply chain-related price increases that added to the post-pandemic costs of repair and materials.
