Man found dead in submerged vehicle near causeway, Cocoa Beach police say
One person is dead after a car crashed into the water near the Banana River relief bridge early Sunday, Aug. 9.
Cocoa Beach police and fire units responded to the west Cocoa Beach Causeway at around 7:20 a.m. after a passerby saw the rear bumper of a vehicle sticking up out of the water.
The deceased man, a 23-year-old from Oklahoma, was found in the driver's seat inside a vehicle submerged in about 8 feet of water, police said in a press release.

The car, a 2023 gray Nissan Altima, was recovered with assistance from the Brevard County Sheriff's Office dive team.
The deceased was the sole occupant of the car, which was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway, according to the preliminary investigation.
No foul play is suspected at this time, police said Sunday.
