School starts this week for students in all of South Florida's counties — although the exact date varies by district.

Below is a breakdown by county, including when students can expect to be released again.

Start and end dates are individually determined by each of Florida's school districts, which develop academic calendars by taking into account input from a variety of sources — including calendar committees, in some cases.

Broward: Classes start on Aug. 10 and end on May 28

Miami-Dade: Classes start on Aug. 13 and end on June 3.

Monroe: Classes start on Aug.12 and end on May 28.

Palm Beach County: Classes start on Aug. 10 and end on May 27.

Florida's 2026 back-to-school sales tax holiday for school supplies began Monday, July 20, and will run through Thursday, Aug. 20.

According to the Florida Department of Revenue, the full list of qualifying items includes the following, "if they meet the specified price limits and other conditions":

Personal computers or personal computer-related accessories purchased for noncommercial home or personal use having a sales price of $1,500 or less, including:

Personal computer-related accessories, including:

Wallets and bags (excepting briefcases, suitcases, and other garment bags) having a sales price of $100 or less per item, including:

School supplies having a sales price of $50 or less per item, including:

Staplers and staples used to secure paper products

Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles having a sales price of $30 or less, including:

Flashcards or other learning cards

Interactive or electronic books and toys intended to teach reading or math skills

Matching or other memory games

Puzzle books and search-and-find books

Stacking or nesting blocks or sets

Clothing, footwear, and accessories having a sales price of $100 or less per item, including:

Shirts, pants, dresses, skirts, shorts, and other apparel

Shoes, boots, sandals, and other footwear

Accessories such as belts, hats, gloves, and scarves
