Moldova has recalled its ambassador from Russia for consultations following the explosion of a drone in the south of the country.
The Foreign Ministry in Chișinău said it "condemned in the strongest possible terms" the incident near the village of Crocmaz.
The incident constitutes a violation of Moldova's sovereignty and jeopardizes the safety of Moldovan citizens, the ministry said.
On Sunday, a suspected Russian drone crashed and exploded near Crocmaz on the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. There were no reports of damage or casualties.
President Maia Sandu condemned the violation of Moldovan airspace on X and called for an end to the Russian war on Ukraine.
Russia has been at war with its neighbour Ukraine since February 2022. Russian drones and missiles repeatedly fly into Moldovan areas close to the border and also crash within the country, which is situated between Ukraine and Romania.
