MONROE – Police are investigating the death of a 32-year-old man who apparently was struck by lightning Tuesday afternoon near a solar field as storms producing heavy rain and lightning moved across New Jersey.
The man's identity has not been released pending notification of family members, police said.
At about 3 p.m. July 28, the Monroe Township Police Department Communications Center received a report of a man who may have been struck by lightning near a solar field at 355 Hoffman Station Road.
When officers, Monroe Township EMS personnel and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital paramedics arrived, they found the man unconscious in the field.
He was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released.
