TONIGHT: Another warm and muggy night ahead with lows in the mid and upper 70s. Skies will be mostly clear.
TOMORROW: A heat advisory is in effect for Thursday. High temperatures will climb back to the mid and upper 90s, with heat index values peaking around 108-110 degrees. Stay hydrated and safe in the heat.
LOOKING AHEAD: A ridge of high pressure will set up over the area in the second half of this week. This will decrease rain chances and increase temperatures heading into the weekend. We will spend several days in the upper 90s to near 100 degrees, with even higher heat index values. Heat advisories will likely be continued through the weekend.
TRACKING THE TROPICS: Tropical Storm Cristobal has formed in the North Atlantic. Cristobal has winds of 45 mph and is moving eastward and away from the United States.
This storm will encounter cooler water in the North Atlantic in addition to dry air in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere. These factors will help it to dissipate within a couple of days.
Invest 92L is a tropical wave located nearly 1,000 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands. As this system moves west through the Atlantic, it could strengthen and become a tropical depression within the next couple of days. If the system becomes a tropical depression in the central tropical Atlantic later this week, there's a chance it will weaken as it runs into dry air and wind shear.
The other tropical wave has a medium chance of tropical development over the next seven days, but may face the same fate as the lead wave. Bottom line – yes, it is busy in the tropics, but there are no threats to Louisiana or the United States right now.
