A police pursuit that began in Wake Forest ended in a crash in Durham on Wednesday evening, sending one person to the hospital and the suspect getting away.
According to the Wake Forest Police Department, officers spotted a driver operating a vehicle recklessly with a fictitious temporary tag around 7:05 p.m. along Dr. Calvin Jones Highway (N.C. 98 Bypass) near South Main Street (U.S. 1A).
The chase reached speeds of 100 mph, according to radio calls made to police dispatch.
Police said a pursuit followed, ending when a Wake Forest Police cruiser crashed with a silver Toyota Highlander near Holloway Street and Raynor Street in Durham. The suspect vehicle, a silver Volvo station wagon with 30-day tags, sped away.
The driver of the Highlander was taken to a hospital. Authorities have not released information about the extent of the person's injuries.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage.
The Wake County Sheriff's Office was also involved in the chase, and the Durham County Sheriff's Office tried to end the chase by using stop sticks.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, while the Wake Forest Police Department is investigating the pursuit.

State troopers said Thursday night that a crash report is not yet complete and that the investigation continues.
