Norwegian aluminium and renewable energy company Norsk Hydro announced a natural gas deal with Brazilian-based Alunorte on Friday.
Norsk Hydro said that Alunorte, its majority-owned alumina refinery, has reached a deal with its gas supplier CELBA, part of New Fortress Energy, for temporary terminal access to continue to receive natural gas for alumina production.
Consequently, Alunorte has begun increasing alumina production.
Lost output during the period of reduced alumina production is estimated to be 100,000 tons to 120,000 tons.
"Potential Q3 2026 financial impact for Bauxite & Alumina from the reduced production and purchasing gas at prices above the contract price may be $75 to $100 million," the company said.
Earlier, there was a disruption to the supply of natural gas from CELBA.
