ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) - Roanoke's Festival of India returns to Elmwood Park for a vibrant evening of music, cuisine, and cultural performances celebrating India's heritage and independence.
The free event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 and coincides with India's 80th Independence Day. Organizers say festivities will persist, rain or shine.
Hosted by the India Heritage Society, the festival gives people across the Roanoke Valley a chance to experience traditions from different regions of India.
Saturday's event will represent the wide range of languages, food, clothing, dance styles and more that are intertwined throughout the country. This year's theme celebrates the beautiful, unique instruments that define such a strong aspect of Indian culture.

The festival will begin with the American and Indian national anthems. Saturday's entertainment will feature mesmerizing regional dance performances, and raffle drawings are scheduled throughout the evening. Festivalgoers can explore various food vendors.
