Fox News host Mark Levin took a veiled swipe at Vice President JD Vance on Friday, expressing his displeasure with Vance's "twofold" objectives in Iran, which he laid out on Fox News the day before.
"And it really is twofold: it's ensuring that the Gulf countries continue to send oil and gas to the world economy so that we have energy price stability — that's obviously important for the American people. I know that oil is down today, and it's way down from the highs in the early days of the conflict," Vance told Fox News host Will Cain, who pressed Vance on how the war ends given its frustrating and "seesaw nature."
"That's goal number one: keep oil and gasoline cheap for Americans all over our country. And then, obviously, goal number two is ensure that Iran never gets a nuclear weapon. I feel confident we're accomplishing both of those goals, but it's inherently an unpredictable thing, because the Iranians themselves are unpredictable, and they sometimes don't honor the commitments they've made to us," Vance added.
Levin reacted on X, ripping the two objectives Vance mentioned, but did not call out the vice president by name.
"I didn't know our objectives in the war against Iran are: 1. cheap oil and, 2. no nukes. I thought it was: 1. no nukes, 2. no enriched uranium, 3. help is on the way for the Iranian people. Of course, the Strait of Hormuz must remain international waters and open. But it was open before the war. It was never an objective for going to war," Levin wrote, adding:
That said, given the Iranian regime's actions re the Strait, we obviously must confront them there and we are. But even there, we are not declaring that the Iranian regime mustn't control any aspect of the Strait, but that oil must be cheap. We are ratcheting down our war objectives, at least in the public statements of senior officials.
