MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) – The old engineering building on the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh-Fox Cities campus has transformed into a resource center for folks impacted by the tornado.

The multi agency resource center (MARC) opened up on Friday and will reopen again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. It's located at 1655 University Drive in Menasha and includes over 20 different local organizations that can assist folks with recovering and rebuilding after the tornado.

"We're kind of through that emergency phase where life safety is stabilized a little bit," Winnebago County Emergency Management Director Eric Rasmussen said. "Now people are trying to figure out what's next, how can I restock my food and what kind of guide can I get for financial assistance."

The organizations at the resource center provided assistance with everything from financial and food assistance, to case management and mental health help.

"We will be working with them, not just next week, not just next month but for the long haul as they recover as they rebuild," Salvation Army of the Fox Cities Corps Director Shannon Thies told Local 5 News.

Thies said that she met folks on Friday who were asking for help of this scale for the first time in their lives.

"There's no shame in coming when you have a need," she said. "Come to these agencies, come to the Salvation Army, let's work together to figure out how to help you rebuild."  

Fox Crossing resident Donald Bickham was among the visitors to the MARC on Friday afternoon. The tornado displaced him from his apartment for several days and he lost all the food in his refrigerator because the building lost power.

He said that the visit to the MARC was well worth the trip. He left with a gas card and new information that he'd be able to get some extra food from his food pantry to restock the food that spoiled in his fridge.

He said he appreciated that all the resources were in one place to help folks.

"These residents have been through a lot already, and it's trying to take a hurdle out of running from one place to the next and make it convenient for them to access as many resources as possible," Rasmussen said.
