The Michigan Department of Transportation has delayed a project to replace the M-129 bridge over Fletcher Creek in Chippewa County due to issues with fabricating a new box culvert.

According to MDOT officials, scanning and testing of the new culvert is currently underway at the fabrication plant and is expected to be finished this week. Onsite work is expected to resume shortly, pending the successful completion of required testing.

During the project, M-129 is closed at the bridge with traffic detoured on M-80, Gaines Highway, I-75 and M-28. With the delay, MDOT officials now estimate a reopening date for the road by Oct. 2.
