Residents are once again allowed to stay out past 10 p.m. and take out burn permits in Menasha.
The 10 p.m.-to-5 a.m. curfew and the burn ban put in place in the city following the July 27 Appleton-Menasha tornado were lifted Aug. 17, the Menasha Police Department announced on Facebook.
"This is another positive step forward as our community continues to move on from the immediate response into the longer recovery process," the post read.
The restrictions were meant to protect those working in the area following the storm, including cleanup teams, emergency personnel and utility workers restoring power to the area. They were put in place soon after the tornado passed, with Winnebago County Executive Gordon Hintz saying of the curfew that with street lights out, being out after dark could be dangerous, given downed powerlines, gas leaks and other post-storm hazards. As for the burn ban, residents were asked to not burn tree debris, construction materials or other materials, as the action might put others at risk.
The post concluded with an uplifting message: "There is still plenty of recovery work ahead, but each step like this is a reminder of how far our community has come since the tornado."
