Authorities continued to search Wednesday, Aug. 19, for a woman in connection with the death of a Worcester police officer the day prior.

Kurt Solomon, 57, was found dead at his home on Wildwood Avenue on Tuesday, Aug. 18. Now, a manhunt is underway for his wife, 58-year-old Karen Solomon.

Police were seen searching on the Mill Street side of Coes Pond on Tuesday afternoon.

The Worcester Police Department and the Worcester County District Attorney's office each confirmed early Wednesday that the investigation remained ongoing.

Here's what to know about Kurt and Karen Solomon.

Kurt Solomon, 57, was identified by the New England Police Benevolent Association as the off-duty police officer found dead in his home early Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Chief Paul Saucier, who did not identify him by name, said the victim was a patrol officer with the Worcester Police Department for more than 30 years.

The NEPBA said Solomon demonstrated "extraordinary commitment" to the community and law enforcement profession.

"Officer Solomon dedicated more than three decades of his life to serving the City of Worcester," the association said in a statement. "Throughout his distinguished career, he earned the respect of those who served alongside him and was known as an incredibly dependable officer, colleague and friend."

According to the NEPBA, Solomon leaves behind two sons, Niklas and Brandon, his mother, Shirley, and his brothers, Karl and Eric.

Karen Solomon, 58, is being sought by police in connection with Kurt Solomon's death. The Worcester Police Department said she could be armed.

The brown-haired, brown-eyed woman was last seen wearing pajama shorts and a tank top, walking toward Westcott Street on Tuesday, police said in a bulletin.

She is a cofounder of Blue HELP, an organization that helps the families of law enforcement officers who have died by suicide.

She also published a book, "Hearts Beneath the Badge," a collection of interviews with police officers who overcame personal struggles and performed good deeds, in 2014.

The "About the Author" section of the Amazon listing of the book reads, in part: "Married to a police officer for sixteen years, Karen understands today's challenges and puts her knowledge to work on behalf of the entire profession."

According to the biography, Karen Solomon earned her bachelor's in political science from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida.

At the time the book was published, on Dec. 11, 2014, she was a member of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, the International Public Safety Association and the Public Safety Writers Association, her bio said.

Karen Solomon appeared on the "Dr. Phil" television show in 2020, discussing the stigma of suicide in the law enforcement community.
