A traffic stop in Cobb County led to a drug arrest, and deputies say one woman went to unusual lengths to hide fentanyl from investigators.

According to arrest warrants, Erin Lynn Pernell and Charles David Floyd were arrested July 24 at a Shell gas station on Windy Hill Road in Marietta.

Investigators said Floyd was wanted on an active warrant out of Warren County when officers stopped him.

During a search of Floyd's Jeep, officers said they found about a gram of suspected fentanyl inside a sunglasses container, along with syringes and burnt tinfoil.

A backpack containing Pernell's driver's license was also searched, according to the warrant. Investigators said it contained additional suspected fentanyl, syringes, a scale, plastic baggies and measuring spoons.

But the most unusual part of the arrest allegedly happened after Pernell was placed in the back of a patrol car.

The warrant says Pernell slipped one hand out of her handcuff, retrieved a small container of suspected fentanyl hidden on her person and put the drugs inside her vaginal canal.

Investigators later alerted Cobb County jail staff. According to the warrant, deputies searched Pernell at the jail after she allegedly attempted to swallow the suspected fentanyl.

About eight grams was recovered, bringing the total amount of suspected fentanyl recovered in the investigation to about 11 grams, according to the warrant.

Pernell is facing charges including trafficking fentanyl, obstruction, giving a false name and date of birth, evidence tampering, possession of a controlled substance and drug-related charges.

Floyd is charged with possession of suspected fentanyl, obstruction and a drug-related charge. The warrant alleges he helped Pernell retrieve a plastic container containing suspected fentanyl from her bra while both were in the back of a patrol vehicle.

Floyd was also being held on the active Warren County warrant, which had full extradition, according to the arrest warrant.
