Investigators seized three illegal slot-style gaming machines, among other things, from DJ's Pub & Grill in Muskegon for alleged illegal gambling activity, the Michigan Gaming Control Board announced on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

In addition, $1,200 in gift cards were used to pay out gambling winnings, $3,874 in alleged gambling proceeds, and records related to the business were collected after a search warrant was executed by the board, the Michigan Attorney General's Office, and the Muskegon Police Department.

The Free Press called DJ's Pub and Grill on Thursday, Aug. 20, who did not answer the phone for comment.

No arrests have been made at this time, officials say, as the investigation remains ongoing.

"Illegal gambling machines operate with no oversight, no consumer protections, and no accountability," Gaming Control Board Executive Director Henry Williams said in a news release. "When we receive credible information that a business is running unlicensed gaming devices, we act on it. This search warrant reflects our continued commitment to enforcing Michigan's gaming laws and holding accountable those who choose to operate outside them."

The board said in a news release that they received a tip in January 2026 alleging that DJ's Pub was operating unlicensed gaming machines and paying out winnings in cash and gift cards.

Gambling machines in Michigan, the board said, must operate inside regulatory and consumer protections.

Located at 2064 Henry St. in West Michigan, the pub is operated by Star 8 Inc. and was previously under investigation in 2021 by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, which found violations of the state's Liquor Control Code related to illegal gambling.
