A magnitude-7.2 earthquake has struck central Peru, with no immediate reports of fatalities or major damage, news portal RPP reported on Thursday.

The quake struck at around 1 pm (1800 GMT). According to Peru's Geophysical Institute (IGP), the epicentre was located 35 kilometres north of Coracora in the province of Parinacochas, at a depth of 108 km.

Tremors were also felt in Cusco, Arequipa, Junín and the capital Lima, RPP reported, citing the IGP. Peru's Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation of the Navy said there was initially no tsunami threat to the Peruvian coast.

The quake comes shortly after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck neighbouring Colombia, killing at least 319 people. That tremor also occurred at a great depth of around 100 km.
