A freight train hit a vehicle in the north suburbs Friday morning, Lake Forest police said.
Lake Forest police and fire crews responded just after 11:30 a.m. to the crash near Old Mill and Waukegan roads.
A southbound Kansas City Southern freight train traveling from Milwaukee to Bensenville hit a car with a man in his 50s inside.
The man was taken to Condell Medical Center in serious condition, police said.

Metra Milwaukee District North and the Amtrak Hiawatha trains were temporarily affected.
Roads in the area will be closed until a scene investigation is complete and the train can be removed.
Canadian Pacific Kansas Southern is leading the investigation into the incident, alongside Metra and the Lake Forest Police Department.
