At least three people were killed and 15 were injured in Ukraine as Moscow's forces attacked the Zaporizhzhya region in the south-east of the country that is home to Europe's largest nuclear power plant.

Russia pounded the region with ballistic missiles, drones and glide bombs, targeting warehouse buildings and other sites, the military governor, Ivan Fedorov, posted on Telegram on Saturday.

Ukraine has been defending itself against a full-scale Russian invasion for four and a half years. In recent weeks, the number of civilian casualties has risen due to increasingly intense Russian attacks on targets in the hinterland.

The death toll from a Russian drone strike on a shopping centre in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's home city of Kryvyi Rih rose to at least 16, Ukrainian civil defence authorities said on Saturday.

Civil defence officials in Kryvyi Rih said nine people were still missing following Friday's attack, including two children. Several people with serious injuries were still being treated in hospital, with a total of 130 injuries reported.

Russia also struck the Ukrainian capital Kiev again overnight, killing at least one person and injuring others, the authorities said. A warehouse caught fire in the attack, which came as German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul was visiting the city.

The Russian Defence Ministry said a railway depot housing locomotives was hit. Ukraine's air defence had previously warned of an incoming ballistic missile attack on Kiev, which has been hit repeatedly in recent weeks amid a shortage of air-defence units.

At least four civilians were killed, and several others were injured in Ukrainian drone strikes on targets in southern Russia, an official reported on Saturday.

In Yeysk, in the Krasnodar region, three people were killed, two of them children in an attack on civilian infrastructure and residential buildings, according to Governor Veniamin Kondratyev, saying one of the victims admitted to hospital had since died. Another adult was injured. The Ukrainian General Staff stated that the attacks targeted a fuel depot there.

In the Samara region, the authorities reported one death and several people injured after a drone attack. Kiev targeted an oil refinery and Ozon, Russia's second-largest online retailer.

The Russian Defence Ministry stated that 457 Ukrainian drones had been intercepted during the night, though the figure could not be independently verified. The ministry did not provide any figures on the number of hits.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked his armed forces for their "outstanding work" in Russia. He said the latest strikes in the Samara region "continue to curtail Russia's military and economic potential and make the war more palpable in the aggressor country." Russia is raking in millions for its war machine through its oil exports, he added.

Zelensky also said the results of earlier Ukrainian attacks had been confirmed and that a fighter jet and four vehicles had been destroyed at Russia's air base in Saky in Crimea, annexed by Moscow in 2014.

In Bryansk, in Russia, control stations for drones used to carry out attacks on Ukrainian towns and villages had been taken out of action, he said.
