A Tukwila officer was led on high-speed police chase last night, Monday, Aug. 24.
According to the Tukwila Police Department on Facebook, Tukwila Officer Nunez located a black Jeep Grand Cherokee near S 146th Street and 42nd Ave South driving recklessly.
After trying to stop the car, the Jeep took off heading east on S 146th St. at a high-speed, according to Tukwila PD.
Witnesses say the car nearly hit a parked car and almost lost control going around a cul-de-sac.
In order to stop the car, Tukwila PD PIO Victor Masters confirms Officer Nunez used spike strips to pop the car's tires.
Shortly after, Officer Nunez located the vehicle near 16th Ave S and South 146th St., now abandoned.
Tukwila PD say witnesses in the area saw two men run from the car.
Officers found someone who matched the description given by a witness. Tukwila PD say the man told them he was "out for a late-night jog."
They identified the man and released him, as they could not "prove he was the driver," according to Masters.
"If it is determined that he was the driver based on the evidence and investigation, he will be charged with Reckless Driving and felony Eluding," Masters wrote via email.
The abandoned Jeep was impounded, and police will search it for evidence and prints once receiving a search warrant.
