At least eight people have been killed and eight others are missing after a fire broke out at a chemical plant under construction in Russia's Amur region in the Far East, authorities said on Wednesday.
The company AGCHK said eight employees were unaccounted for.
A total of 36 people were injured and taken to hospital, it said. The Emergency Ministry dispatched a plane carrying medical teams to transport the seriously injured to specialist hospitals.
The fire broke out on Tuesday for reasons that are not yet known at the unfinished chemical plant, which is being built in cooperation with a Chinese company.
Authorities said the fire was under control and posed no environmental risk.
The facility is close to completion and is intended for the production of the plastics polyethylene and polypropylene.
