The Tennessean's next Pet of the Week has five pets to consider for participating voters.
All five animals are available for adoption at shelters in Middle Tennessee.
Voting opens Aug. 26 and ends Sept. 2.
The nominees this week are from Montgomery, Rutherford and Williamson Counties.

Arnold is a 3-year-old, 45 pound male Australian Kelpie mix who's full of love and playful energy. He's a smart, friendly pup who's been practicing his tricks like sit, stay, and shake in hopes of impressing a family. Arnold is available for adoption from Rutherford County PAWS in Murfreesboro.

Choco Chester is a very healthy 9-year-old unusually colored Chocolate Tuxedo. He is fully vetted, neutered and litter trained. He loves just lounging around with his people and does well with other cats and even calm dogs. Chester is with Puurrrfect Paws Rescue in Clarksville.
Alice is a female Pug/Labrador puppy. She is 7 months old, vetted, spayed and almost house trained. She has been working with a trainer on her manners and basic commands, too. Great with other dogs, kids and cats, Alice is just a loving, friendly pup looking for her forever home. She is with 3 Friends Animal Rescue in Clarksville.
Chalupa is a 5-month-old male domestic shorthair kitten. He is vetted, neutered and litter trained. Chalupa loves throwing himself at your feet until you pick him up. Chalupa enjoys string toys and other activities. He loves being held, loves his people, is quite the talker and will be a great companion. Chalupa is with Finders Keepers Cat Rescue in Clarksville.
Shelby is a lovely 1-year-old white mixed breed girl who is spayed, 34 pounds, and completely ready to find her forever home. At her core, Shelby is a gentle, sweet, and affectionate soul. She can be a bit shy when stepping into new environments or meeting new people, but given just a little time and patience, her true warm and friendly personality shines right through.
At a perfect medium size, she is as easy to bring along on neighborhood walks as she is to snuggle up with on the couch.
