The death toll from severe flash floods in the mountainous region between Nepal and Tibet has risen to at least 98, with hundreds of people still missing on both sides of the border, according to Nepalese authorities and Chinese state media.
The office of the Nepalese prime minister said at least 95 people had died, with the bodies recovered yet to be identified.
Hundreds of people are unaccounted for in Nepal, including 391 foreign nationals, 93 Nepali nationals, 60 hydropower project workers and 44 Nepal Army personnel. The floods have destroyed 19 bridges and around 40 kilometres of paved roads, with authorities still assessing the extent of the damage.
China, meanwhile, reported three deaths and 265 people missing in Gyirong county in south-western Tibet, according to state media, citing an initial assessment by local authorities. The exact number of missing people was still being determined and rescue operations were continuing.
