While Texans will continue to feel the late-summer heat Wednesday and Thursday, some parts of the Lone Star State are likely to get at least some rain. But that isn't all: heavier precipitation with dangerous hazards are in play, as well.
Severe thunderstorms are possible for the far reaches of the Texas Panhandle on Wednesday evening, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo. High temperatures are likely to climb into the 90s on Wednesday afternoon, but sometime around 9 p.m.-10 p.m., storms may roll in from Colorado and Kansas, which could bring rain, plus "damaging winds upwards of 70 mph," as the NWS put it Wednesday.
"Damaging wind gusts are still the primary hazard, but some hail cannot be ruled out," wrote the NWS, which is warning that "quarter-sized" hail of about one inch in diameter could fall. There's also a "very low" risk of a tornado for the area. Plus, up to three inches of rain could fall per hour, bringing localized flooding for areas in the far northern and western Panhandle. These residents should expect any activity to occur between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Thursday.
A follow-up round of thunderstorms is also in play for Thursday afternoon, said the NWS, with activity primarily around Amarillo to occur starting at 3 p.m. Strong wind gusts and heavy rainfall are possible.
Closer to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, isolated showers and storms are possible Wednesday, with high temperatures to remain in the danger zone above 100 degrees F. It'll also stay hot in Central Texas, with high temperatures Wednesday staying above 100. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are in play Thursday afternoon and evening, primarily north and west of Austin and San Antonio.
High temperatures in Southeast Texas may eclipse 100 degrees on Wednesday. There's about a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, and a similar chance on Friday; otherwise, expect high temperatures in the mid-to-high 90s.
