The Chinese authorities have warned of further flooding following the devastating mudslide on the border between Tibet and Nepal.
Citing the Ministry of Water Resources, Chinese state television reported on Thursday that a lake had formed at a river mouth on the Nepalese side and that there was a risk of a dam breach.
Two million cubic metres of water have already accumulated in the new lake, and a further 3 million cubic metres could be added. It was reported that the newly formed lake had already overflowed.
State television broadcast aerial footage showing the lake. It is said to be located near the Gyirong border post - which was dramatically swept away by the flash flood - but still within Nepalese territory.
The authorities were continuing to monitor the situation and carrying out assessments, according to the report.
This increased risk comes on top of the already difficult rescue operations in the mountainous region. Following the flood, China's rescue teams had initially only been able to reach the Gyirong border crossing - which was cut off by masses of mud - by air or after long journeys by road.
