DANBURY - A thunderstorm brought down trees and dropped large hailstones over Danbuury Thursday afternoon.
The storm brought down trees on Glen Hill Road near Tamarack Avenue, the National Weather Service's map of storm damage reports said. Trees and wires also came down on Virginia Avenue, where several trees also were "uprooted," the weather service said.
Tree damage also affected Interstate 84, where a large tree came down on the eastbound side of the highway near North Street, according to the National Weather Service.
Another downed tree was reported on Hospital Avenue.
Video posted to social media by Jack Drake, a local meteorologist, showed hailstones falling in the city.
The bulk of Thursdays storms were forecast to remain west of Connecticut, but they did trigger a few watches and warnings in western parts of Connecticut.
The weather service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for central Fairfield County and west central New Haven County through 3:15 p.m. Thursday. Officials had warned the storm could have brought wind gusts of up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail.
"Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible," officials said. "Expect wind damage to trees and power lines."
A severe thunderstorm watch also was in effect for Fairfield County through 8 p.m. and Litchfield County through 9 p.m.
Additionally, the weather service has issued a flood watch for Fairfield County from noon until 11 p.m. Thursday.
All of those watches and warnings have since expired.
Friday will bring another chance of thunderstorms into the late afternoon, though the weekend is expected to be sunny and dry.
