A GoFundMe for the children's father has received global support as the community mourns the tragic loss

A community in South Australia is mourning the loss of a woman and her two children after police say she jumped off a cliff with them in what is being investigated as a murder-suicide.

Helena Wright, 36, and her 2-year-old daughter were recovered from near the ocean in Port Macdonnell, a town south of Adelaide in South Australia on Monday, July 27, the South Australia Police said at a press briefing. Police said at the time Wright's 3-month-old was still missing, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, 7 News and The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The children were not named by police but were identified in a GoFundMe as Hazel and Lewis Wright.

On Monday morning local time, a friend requested a welfare check on Helena; responding officers did not find anyone at the residence at the time, per police, news.com.au and The Guardian reported.

Just two hours later, Helena and Hazel were found after witnesses reported an empty car with its engine running in Cape Northumberland just a few miles away.

Following a two-day search for the infant child, police ceased their operation on Wednesday, per The Guardian.

Police said they made the decision after "serious consideration" because they believe the infant "could not have survived the period of time that has elapsed, either in the water or on land," the outlet reported.

Police also said the current weather conditions have made it extremely challenging to search further. Emergency vessels were forced to stay out of the water for much of Tuesday, which hindered their efforts to sweep the shoreline and clifftop, according to The Guardian.

The community is reeling as they mourn the deceased.

"These types of tragedies are the ones that shock you to the core," South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said on Tuesday, according to abc.net.au. "There are a lot of unanswered questions here."

A GoFundMe has been set up for the children's father Brad Wright. "Just hold your family close, look to God for true peace and go visit a mate and give them a hug," read part of the fundraiser.

Volunteers who worked with Helena at a local library have also expressed their condolences.

"Mt Gambier Toy Library is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a member of our committee and her children," read part of the statement from the library, shared online by news.com.au. "Our volunteer committee and toy library community are grieving and supporting one another."

Much remains unknown about the circumstances surrounding the incident. Helena visited the police department the day before her body was found, authorities previously confirmed to The Guardian; no further information was available as to the reason behind her visit.

Police have not shared a possible motive but have said there is no indication that anyone else was involved, local outlets reported.
