Women interested in community engagement and the legacy of social reformer Jane Addams will have an opportunity to gather for a free luncheon and discussion at the Cedarville Area Historical Society on Sept. 19.
The event is being organized by the Jane Club at The Foundation for Northwest Illinois, according to a community announcement. Organizers say the group draws inspiration from the original Jane Club, a working women's cooperative that operated near Hull House in Chicago and emphasized mutual support among its members.
The luncheon will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the Cedarville Area Historical Society in Cedarville, the hometown of Addams, who became the first woman from the United States to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
Organizers describe the modern Jane Club as a network focused on supporting community initiatives and helping address issues affecting women throughout the region.
