A Whitehall man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this summer in South Linden.
Danyo Sellers, 19, faces a murder charge in the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Maliek Venson, according to a news release from Columbus police.
Just before 3:30 a.m. July 23, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert to gunshots in the 2300 block of Hamilton Avenue near Hudson Street, according to a criminal complaint filed by a city homicide detective. On arrival, officers found Venson lying in an alley and suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to the complaint.
Medics with the Columbus Division of Fire pronounced Venson dead at 3:43 a.m.
According to the complaint, detectives learned through speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage that Venson was walking in the alley when there was an "altercation" with Sellers, who then shot Venson. The complaint does not describe what the altercation was about.
A Columbus police SWAT team arrested Sellers without incident on Aug. 31, police said. A court date for Sellers was not immediately available on the Franklin County Municipal Court website.
