Erie County to remember 25th anniversary of Sept. 11 with these events

Sept. 11, 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the tragic events that took place on Sept. 11, 2001.

Erie County will have events this year in remembrance of the day, including the annual Sept. 11 ceremony near the 9/11 Memorial at Blasco Library. The Erie Playhouse will hold a production that has a theme around Sept. 11 and the Manufacturer and Business Association will host a memorial car show.

The annual Erie County Sept. 11 ceremony is taking place at the Erie Maritime Museum at 150 E. Front St. next to the Blasco Memorial Library on Sept. 11 starting at 8:30 a.m.

The traditional remembrance ceremony will feature the Erie Philharmonic, local color guards and remarks from Erie County Executive Christina Vogel.

The bell tolls will happen at 8:46 a.m. and 9:03 a.m. to mark the moments when the planes struck the towers at the World Trade Center in New York.

Erie County officials noted that the Erie Fire Department, Seneca JROTC Color Guard, Erie Philharmonic and Brian Johansson of the Erie City Mission will be in attendance to take part in the ceremony. The guest list is subject to change.

The Manufacturer and Business Association will host a car show and community gathering Sept. 11 at 2171 W. 38th St. at 3 p.m.

The public is invited to bring their classic cars, modern cars or unique vehicles as a tribute to the American spirit.

The event will honor the lives lost and recognize the courage and sacrifice of the first responders on scene from the events. There will be a moment of silence during the event.

Starting on Sept. 11 at the Erie Playhouse at 13 W. 10th St., the Playhouse will be performing "Come From Away."

According to the Playhouse description of the show, when the world stopped on Sept. 11, 2001, kindness soared in an isolated Canadian town. The show takes viewers into the heart of the true story of 7,000 stranded passengers in a small town in Newfoundland.

Show dates are Sept. 11-12, 18-20 and 24-27. Show times are 7:30 p.m. except on Sept. 20 and 27 when the show starts at 2 p.m. Ticket prices range from $20.40 to $31.40.
