German prosecutors announced on Tuesday that they had charged two alleged supporters of a violent far-right group in a follow-up to a previous trial relating to an attack on asylum seeker accommodation.
The two alleged supporters of the group Last Wave of Defence (Letzte Verteidigungswelle) are accused of travelling in early January 2025 to an asylum seekers' facility in central Germany intending to start a fire there. No fire actually broke out.
The Hanseatic Higher Regional Court must now determine whether the two Germans will stand trial.
The youths, who were 16 and 17 years old at the time of the incident, were arrested at the end of June. According to the statement, one of the two remains in pre-trial detention.
Prosecutors allege one of the youths provided cover during the incident, while the other filmed it.
They are also charged with aiding and abetting attempted murder, attempted arson resulting in death, and attempted aggravated arson.
In early August, a court in Hamburg sentenced seven young members and one supporter of the Last Wave of Defence group to prison terms ranging from one and a half to five years.
At the same time, it ruled that the group was a domestic terrorist organization.
