A driver was shot and wounded while driving on Interstate 80 in Richmond on Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol said Wednesday.
The shooting happened at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday on westbound I-80 near Barrett Avenue, according to the CHP.
The driver was wounded in their left shoulder and taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life threatening.
According to the CHP, the victim and a passenger were traveling directly behind a black sedan when the driver of the sedan suddenly braked, causing the victim to move into the Barrett Avenue exit lane. As the two vehicles traveled parallel to each other, the victim and passenger reported hearing three gunshots, authorities said.
Investigators temporarily closed all westbound lanes of I-80 between Solano and Barrett avenues Tuesday night to search the road for evidence. All lanes reopened just before 11 p.m.
Authorities announced no arrests as of Wednesday evening.
