A Sept. 3 online notice announced that Patrick and Thomasina Tobin died on Aug. 24 while on vacation in Spain

The couple's bodies were discovered by their children near a hot tub, and investigators continue to look into what led to the tragedy

The married couple who were found dead by their teenage children near a hot tub at a Spanish rental property while on vacation are being remembered as the investigation into their deaths continues. 

A notice announcing the Aug. 24 deaths of Patrick, of Ireland, and Thomasina Tobin, who was originally from New Zealand, was posted online on Thursday, Sept. 3. 

"Thomasina and Paddy will be deeply missed by their children, their families, relatives and many friends," the notice read in part about the couple.

"Thomasina and Paddy shared a life filled with love, family and friendship," the notice later read. "Their sudden passing has left an immeasurable void in the lives of all who knew and loved them."

Thomasina was a quantity surveyor, and Patrick worked at global technology company HCLTech in London, The New Zealand Herald reported.

A previous statement shared with PEOPLE from Spain's Civil Guard said that Thomasina and Patrick were found dead in the coastal town of Cullera, in Valencia.

The couple's two children, who are reportedly in their teens, found the bodies, the Civil Guard previously said.

In an earlier statement to PEOPLE, a spokesperson for Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that the department was "aware of this case and is providing consular assistance." 

A New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson shared a statement with PEOPLE on Friday, Aug. 28, that read, "We are aware of the death of a New Zealander in Spain. For privacy reasons, no further information will be provided."

Meanwhile, as reported by Spanish outlet Levante-EMV, investigators believe the hot tub's water circulation system might have contributed to the Tobins' deaths.

Initial autopsy results from the Valencia Institute of Legal Medicine indicated that suction entrapment — in which the drain of a swimming pool or hot tub sucks in a person's hair or jewelry, resulting in possible drowning or major injuries — could be a factor in the tragedy.  

Local police said the couple had a "cardiopulmonary incident due to acute stress" and ruled out drowning, according to Levante-EMV.

Spanish outlet Las Provincias previously reported that investigators were working to determine whether a combination of mechanical failure of the hot tub, electrocution and toxic fumes might have contributed to the deaths.

PEOPLE contacted Spain's Civil Guard and the Valencia Institute of Legal Medicine on Thursday, but did not receive immediate replies. 

Meanwhile, Thursday's death notice for the Tobins stated that the funeral arrangements would be announced in due time. 

"May they rest in eternal peace together," the notice read.
