Coveris has produced and delivered a mono-material sleeve for Dr Beckmann's entry into the liquid fabric softener segment in France.
The work was completed from initial design to market launch within six months.
The SleeveFlex Ultra Stretch format was developed to combine reduced material use with production and recycling considerations for the new product launch.
Coveris noted that the sleeve uses 30% less material than standard shrink sleeves and is intended to align with existing and forthcoming regulatory requirements.
Dr Beckmann needed a packaging format for a newly developed bottle as part of its move into liquid fabric softener.
Coveris worked with the business on the sleeve for Dr Beckmann Quick Wash Fabric Softener and said the timetable was met through joint project work, implementation and on-site technical support.
The sleeve is made from mono-material LDPE film and is designed as an elastic stretch format.
Coveris said it can be applied to both PET bottles and HDPE containers.
The floatable sleeve is intended to support bottle-to-bottle recycling in PET applications. For HDPE, it forms a mono-material PE pack structure, which the company said helps brands address Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation requirements.
On production, Coveris said the format reduces material use by 30% compared with conventional shrink sleeves and removes the need for a steam tunnel.
According to the company, this cuts steam consumption by 150kg per hour.
It also said the sleeve avoids the need for temperature-controlled transport and special storage conditions, which can cut overall operating costs by as much as 50%.
Coveris assisted Dr Beckmann across the process, including technology selection, installation of new equipment and commissioning of the line, enabling the product to reach commercial launch within six months.
In July, Coveris secured RecyClass Recycled Plastics Traceability Certification at Level 2 for three of its packaging sites.
The newly certified facilities are in Firminy and Montfaucon in France, as well as Louth in the UK.
