Sunday looks like the kind of early-September day that reminds you summer is starting to fade. After a few warmer and more humid days, Connecticut will turn noticeably cooler and drier, with plenty of sunshine and a light northeast breeze.
Temperatures will struggle to reach the 80-degree mark, with most inland communities topping out in the lower to middle 70s. The shoreline will be a bit cooler, especially along the eastern coast, while the Litchfield Hills may remain in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
The cooler temperatures will not come with a gloomy sky. Most of Sunday will be sunny to mostly sunny, and the lower humidity should make for a very comfortable afternoon.
After Saturday's increasing clouds and evening shower chance, Sunday should be the much more reliable day for outdoor plans, whether you're heading to a fair, hiking, working in the yard or squeezing in one more summer activity.
Sunday night will be clear and chilly for early September, with temperatures falling into the 50s across much of the state. Some of the cooler inland spots could get down into the low 50s, offering a preview of the crisp nights that become more common as fall approaches.
Labor Day looks excellent statewide. High pressure will provide plenty of sunshine with temperatures rebounding into the middle and upper 70s. Humidity should remain low, making Monday another strong day for cookouts, parades, outdoor gatherings and holiday travel.
Tuesday stays mostly sunny and seasonable, with highs near 80 degrees. Wednesday should also be fairly quiet, although clouds will begin increasing and a chance for showers returns Wednesday night. Thursday may turn warmer again, with highs climbing back into the lower 80s.
Shoreline (including Stamford, Bridgeport, New Haven, New London): Mostly sunny, breezy and much more comfortable. Highs: 70-75.
Inland (including Danbury, Waterbury, Greater Hartford, Windham): Mostly sunny and noticeably cooler with comfortable humidity. Highs: 71-77.
Litchfield Hills (including Torrington, Litchfield, Winchester): Mostly sunny, cool and crisp. Highs: 68-73.
