Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a drowning happening in northern Indiana Friday afternoon.
According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Kosciusko County Dispatch got a 911 call Friday, Sept. 4, about missing person last seen in the water near a sandbar at Lake Wawasee, which is northwest of Fort Wayne.
First responders, including dive crews, arrived and quickly located the victim in the water. Indiana DNR identified him as Brian Conwell, 55.
According to Indiana DNR, Conwell entered the water to set mooring augers, which are a type of anchoring system, when he began to struggle. Despite lifesaving efforts, Indiana DNR says Conwell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Indiana Conservation Officers preliminarily believe this is an accidental drowning, and an autopsy has been scheduled.
Kosciusko County is located approximately 130 miles north of Indianapolis.
